National Geographic Society Founded 1888
Did you know an Atlantic Puffin flaps his wings up to 400 times a minute? Or did you know that a skunk can spray a target up to twelve feet away? These fascinating facts came from The National Geographic Kids website (link provided below). The National Geographic Society is celebrating its 125th anniversary! It was founded on January 27th, 1888. According to the National Geographic Website, the society was created to inspire people to care about the planet by providing information about geography, archaeology, natural science, and the promotion of environmental and historical conservation. The official journal, or The National Geographic Magazine, is published in 34 different languages. The society also publishes other magazines, books, maps, web and film products, many of which we carry at the library. If you want to learn more about animals and the world around us, or if you want to celebrate the Society's 125th birthday, then check out some of these great materials in the links below.
