It's the most wonderful time of the year

Well, it is here.  We can't escape it any longer.  December has arrived.  This month is a busy one with shopping, wrapping, celebrating, cooking, cleaning, baking and more.  And this all needs to get done in less than one itty bitty little month.  Get that calendar out and start planning your schedule!

Let me lace up my elf shoes.
Now while many people see this time of year as stressful, I see it as wonderful, delightful, fabulous, and magical.  And it can be the same way for you - you just have to know what to look for and what to celebrate.  Luckily for you, I am here to help you out.  Think of me as a little elf, working behind the scenes to bring you some holiday cheer.

I pick this one! Oh, I'll eat all of them eventually.
So without further to celebrate during just the first week of December.  First of all, December 4th is one of my favorite days of the whole year.  If you have been reading along for a while, you probably know that I have a small, minor, teeny, tiny obsession with cookies, and December 4th just happens to be National Cookie Day.  Now, I may be the only one who thinks this, but I truly believe that December 4th should be a national holiday, just so I can stay home, bake cookies, and then wait for it......EAT the cookies!  What a glorious day that would be!  What kind of cookies are you going to make to celebrate National Cookie Day?  I am thinking the good old classic chocolate chip cookies, but I have a hankering for some chocolate crinkle cookies too lately.  Who am I kidding - I will just make both and be in cookie heaven!

Let it go, let it go.....
Now, there couldn't be a better time for this, but Walt Disney's birthday is on December 5th.  Seriously - I will still have some cookies left over (hopefully) and then I can watch Disney movies until my heart's content on the 5th to celebrate old Walt's birthday.  I think very few things pair as nicely as cookies and Disney movies.  What is your favorite Disney movie?  I would guess that a lot of you are saying Frozen right now - and it is good timing considering the weather.  I love Frozen too, along with Beauty and the Beast, and Brave, and Mary Poppins, and Cars, and, and, and....oh I just love almost any Disney movie.  I don't think I ever grew up.

Wash, dry, fold...this isn't too hard.
But wait, there's more!  December 6th is Saint Nicholas' Day.  Now I know Saint Nicholas' Day isn't celebrated that much in the United States, but it is still a nice day to celebrate and bring kindness and cheer to other people.  While you don't necessarily have to put gifts in other people's shoes as Saint Nicholas does, you could certainly bring over those last few delicious cookies to your neighbors as a treat.  Or help decorate the house for the holidays.  Or even better, help clean the house for the holidays - mom may just break down and cry and let you eat all the cookies in the house if you do that.  Anyway, celebrate Saint Nicholas' Day by spreading warmth and holiday cheer.

So now that I have you looking for recipes, Disney movies, and ways to help out, come on over to the Roselle Public Library and we have all you need.  Click on the links below to get some great ideas!
