Kanopy Kids

Did you know the library offers free streaming of movies?  Kanopy is a streaming service the Roselle Public Library offers to its cardholders.  While it has movies for all ages, it just started to offer a child friendly version on May 1 called Kanopy Kids.  Kanopy Kids highlights films and TV series that help children develop empathy, mindfulness, and self-esteem through entertaining and educational videos.  The site uses Common Sense Media to determine which films are age-appropriate.  Kanopy Kids also features parental controls to help keep kids safe.  Once logged into the Kids mode, children are unable to exit Kanopy Kids to watch any videos meant for viewers aged 12+.  Another option is to create a 4-digit PIN to ensure that kids only have access to age-appropriate videos.

Where might you find this cool service on the library's website?  Look for it on the library's main page, on the top menu under "Books and More."  Pull down the menu and select "Find Movies."  You will see "Streaming Movies" and then the Kanopy link (or click right here).  You will need to register and provide your email address in order to get the link to join.  Once activated, here is what happens:

10 free videos per month

3 days to watch a video as many times as you'd like without using another credit

Resets back to 10 on the first of every month!

Works on any device:  iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast.

The site offers thoughtful content for kids such as those listed below:
  • PBS Kids favorites:  Between the Lions, Nature Cat and Dinosaur Train
  • Beloved characters:  Babar, Franklin, Little Bear, Curious George and Caillou
  • Oscar nominated family films
  • Literacy classic adaptations:  Where the Wild Things Are, Johnny Appleseed and Little Red Hen
  • Award-winning animated shorts
  • Diverse videos from around the globe
We can't wait for you to give Kanopy Kids a try!
